A few months ago, I did the Wasserauen to Äscher mountain restaurant hike and loved it so much that I decided to revisit the route, only this time adding Schäfler Hut for a little extra challenge. And like my previous hike in Wasserauen, the trail immediately started off with climbs and switchbacks. But unlike my previous hike, there was no more snow on the route and I was happy that I could keep my socks nice and dry.

I met a few local cows and goats as I made my way through Bommel and Äscher. The mountain restaurant was opened and bustling this time but my only goal was to have my beer reward at the Schäfler Hut. Adding this extra stretch to my hike also added a few hundred meters of elevation. Strava tells me this was the highest elevation gained out of all my hikes (1,187 m)!

I would say this was a moderate hiking trail. It was steep with stairs and switchbacks, but it was never exposed, and you were on a clear path the whole way. I also used my hiking poles for that extra support when my legs were getting tired.

The start of the hiking trail is near the Wasserauen train station. The trail ends at Seealpsee and it took me around 45 minutes to walk back to the Wasserauen train station to catch the train back home.

📍: Wasserauen
🥾: 15.25 km
