THE BACK HORN is one of my favorite bands, but I always hesitated translating their songs because their lyrics are very ambiguous on purpose. They're almost like poems in a way and a translation would most likely lose some of that ambiguity since every translation is only the translator's interpretation of the song. But I didn't like how my list of translated songs doesn't contain any songs of my favorite band, so I went ahead and translated my favorite song by them, which happens to be one of their oldest songs.

My interpretation of this song is that it depicts how growing up feels like as you're feeling your way through life. The summer/daytime stands for childhood/adolescence, and as you come of age, you venture away from the safe paths and get lost in the dark uncertain forest, clueless where to go, with your only guide being the stuff you read while growing up. This is, of course, just my interpretation. I've even seen interpretations claiming that the song is about the band's past struggles when they went from starting out as an indie band to getting their major debut, while trying to keep their music style and themes intact. But I believe there's no right or wrong when it comes to interpretations of songs.
