Feeling Guilty for Switching Cameras 😔 I feel bad for abandoning my companion of 8 years, the A7m3, and embracing the A7c2.

Hello Everyone! 👋 Today, I want to share with you my long-debated decision to purchase the A7C2. Let’s talk about the reasons that made me switch from the A7m3, which has been with me for a long time. Features like autofocus, high sensitivity, and dynamic range are already excellent on the A7m3, so I won’t mention them.

Appearance is Everything! ✨ First of all, appearance is justice. The A7c2’s retro and compact look is very appealing. Ever since I used the Fuji X100V, I really don’t want to take out an ugly camera. The A7c2’s appearance is comparable to the peak of Fuji’s design, the X100. Compared to the A7m3, it’s much more compact, lightweight, and stylish.

New Features and Improvements 🚀 Secondly, the A7c2 has added FL filters and in-camera adjustments, making Sony’s direct output possible. A big reason why Fuji cameras sell well is their film simulation. Nowadays, life is fast-paced, and it’s hard to find time to edit photos. So Fuji’s direct output has become a necessity. Through some methods, Sony cameras can also achieve Fuji’s twenty film simulations. I don’t want to judge which is better, but at least Sony’s FL is competitive.

Video Stabilization and 4K 60fps 🎥 Video stabilization is not Sony’s strong suit, but compared to the A7m3, the newly added enhanced stabilization and gyro post-stabilization are very practical. No matter what kind of stabilization, there will be cropping. If you don’t mind the hassle, a stabilizer is still the best. Because it’s handheld, for severe shaking, you need to use gyro stabilization. Enhanced stabilization is not very effective.

4K 60fps and Cropping 📹 Compared to the A7m3, the A7c2 also adds 4K 60fps. Note that when 60fps is enabled, there will be a 1.5x crop, turning it into an APS-C format. If you enable enhanced stabilization or gyro stabilization, the crop will be even more. It’s recommended to use an ultra-wide-angle lens, like 16mm, so after cropping you still have 24mm, or use an APS-C format lens.

Improved User Experience 🖥️ The new menu user experience is much better. Not only are the commonly used settings at the top and easy to find, but video and photo settings are separated. You can also add custom options. The flip screen is convenient for selfies and solo video recording. Since 4K is oversampled, the quality of clear image zoom is much better than digital zoom. The default settings on the camera buttons are much more reasonable, and quickly changing focus modes is very practical. The FN menu also contains commonly used settings. The dual dial design makes it easy to switch between video and photo modes.

Overall Improvement 🌟 Upgrading from the A7m3 to the A7c2, the overall improvement is quite noticeable. Especially since it has become more compact and good-looking, ordinary users are more willing to take it out. Although 4K 60fps has cropping and video stabilization is not ideal, there are still some solutions. It seems difficult to make up for it in a short time, otherwise, who would buy Sony’s video cameras?
