भोर संस्थानाचे वैभव असलेला सुधागड किल्ला म्हणजे पुण्यातून कोकणात उतरणाऱ्या सवाष्णीच्या घाटाचा पहारेकरी. अतिशय प्रशस्त असे पठार असलेला हा किल्ला एक प्राचीन किल्ला आहे. सुधागड परिसरातील ठाणाळे आणि खड्सांबळे लेण्यांचे अस्तित्व असल्यामुळे ते सिद्ध होते. याला पहिले भोरपगड असेही म्हणत. १६४८ साली किल्ला हिंदवी स्वराज्यात दाखल झाला. याबाबत असा उल्लेख आढळतो की "साखरदऱ्यात मालावजी नाईक कारके यांनी माळ लाविली. सरदार मालोजी भोसले यांच्या हाताखाली जाधव आणि सरनाईक हे प्रथम किल्ल्यावर चढले. या धारकर्यांना उभे करून त्यांचे पाठीवर हैबतराव चढले. त्यास संभाजीराव पुढे जाऊन माथा गेले. पंचविसाने पुढे जाऊन गस्त मारिली. बोकाद्सिलेचा पहारा मारला. पुढे भोराईच्या टप्प्यावरी गेले तो सदरेतून किल्लेदार व लोक धावत आले. हाणहाण झाली त्या समयी किल्लेदार कामास आले. उपरांतिक जाऊन सदर काबीज केली."

The origin of this fort is said to date back to the 2nd century B.C., the same age as the Thanale Caves and Khadsamble caves nearby. It was then called Bhrorapgad (after its presiding deity, Bhoraidevi). In 1436, it was captured by the Bahamani Sultan. In 1657, the Marathas took over and renamed it "Sudhagad"(the sweet one). It was a large fort and Sudhagad was considered by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as the capital of his kingdom. But later Raigad was choosed as it was center in Location.
