#trabant #vwgolf2 #volkswagen That's how it continued after the Trabant, a witness tells. Treuhand, the last Golf 2. Sachsenring Automobilbau Zwickau

1992 was a time of uncertainty for many. The excerpts in this video come from a private video from that time and show the production of the last Golf 2 body.
At that time, Sachsenring Automobilbau Zwickau was still being handled by the Treuhandanstalt. Contemporary witness Herbert Kawaschinski talks about this time and the circumstances that the employees had to cope with back then.
With the production of the body for the Golf 2, the employees once again showed the quality with which the cars could be manufactured.
Unfortunately, many unfortunate circumstances made the work difficult.

In this video, the eyewitness tells what efforts were made to gain a foothold on the international market as quickly as possible. Thanks to Carl Hahn, the then CEO of VW, Sachsenring was able to produce bodies for the Golf 2.
The tools for this came largely from Rally Golf. In the beginning, the production was largely done by hand.

What can't be seen in this video is a simple film about the production of the Golf 2. There are already quite a few of those and I just didn't want to imitate them.
There is a nice eyewitness report here, paired with short recordings of a video from 1992, which was recorded in the Sachsenring automobile factory in Zwickau. The film shows quite well how hard all the employees were at that time.
At the time, contemporary witness Herbert tried to ensure that the tools and test equipment needed to build the Golf 2 body actually came to Zwickau. In the beginning he commuted between Zwickau and Wolfsburg almost every day.
There and in other automobile plants, the contemporary witness could see that the employees were not nearly as motivated as was the case in Zwickau.
