#ddr #oldtimer #citroen Driving like Honecker in the GDR, that's how we, with Gerrit Crummenerl from Genex @GENEX2010 (which is a story in itself), drove through the Leipzig countryside.

We drove the Citroen CX 25 Prestige and a Volvo 760 GLE from the People's Chamber of the GDR.

Gerrit Crummenerl was born on July 12, 1972, in Leipzig. After completing his education, he set out to find a business idea that would excite him. His love for history and old cars eventually led him to found Genex Old & Youngtimer in 2010. The company is based in Brandis, near Leipzig.
In 1978, the GDR government received two CX Prestige cars from Citroën as a gift. The head of state, Erich Honecker, was so impressed by their design and comfort that he ordered four Citroën CXs for the state fleet until the collapse of the GDR and his resignation in the autumn of 1989.
The one shown here is one from the last order.

These vehicles were procured in 1984 and are now a rare piece of GDR history. With only 16,000 km on the clock, the Citroen is in remarkably good condition. Geriet Grummernel tells the story of how it came to be.

Not quite as prominent but also interesting is this Volvo 760 GLE that was procured for the People's Chamber of the GDR.

As a trained GDR citizen, one naturally wonders how such vehicles were maintained and repaired.
