On the third Sunday of each month, MOTAT hosts their popular 'live day' event, which involves NZR steam locomotives running on the tiny Western Springs Railway. The tram line was also in operation, and proved to be just as popular as ever.

All three of the museum's operational steam locomotives were in operation (F 180, L 507 and Y 542), while four trams were running instead of the usual two. The trams in question were:
'A' class 4-wheeler No. 44 (from Auckland)
Baldwin steam tram No. 100 (from Whanganui)
SW6 class No. 906 (from Melbourne, Australia)
W2 class No. 321 (also from Melbourne)
