Opatija (Italian: Abbazía) is a city in western Croatia, on the stretch from Rijeka to Istria.
Located at the foot of the Učka mountain and nature park, Opatija offers an excellent choice for vacations in summer and winter. Beautiful nature, parks, old Austro-Hungarian villas, promenades and beaches have been attracting tourists from Europe and the world for 160 years. Opatija is a leading tourist destination in the Republic of Croatia for the organization of congresses, seminars and consultations. With festivals, concerts, exhibitions and other cultural and sports events, Opatija offers cultural and entertainment facilities throughout the year.
According to the 2021 census, 9,483 Croats (89.30%) live in Opatija, while the most represented minorities are Serbs 208 (1.96%), Italians 151 (1.42%) and Slovenians 114 (1.07%).
