It is a March 1968 Triumph 13/60 Herald Saloon in Gunmetal Grey with approx. 63,000m on the clock. The 13/60 tells us it is a 1.3L 4 cylinder petrol engine delivering 60hp. Naturally aspirated with a single Stromberg carburettor.
The engine and running gear are in great condition. The engine runs smoothly and starts exactly as it should, using a manual choke. Although if it has been stood for a few weeks it can take a while for fuel to come through after settling in the system. The cylinder head gasket was replaced around 4 years ago and the carburettor was also rebuilt and is in excellent condition.
The ignition has been upgraded with a replacement distributor with electronic points. It still has a normal rotor arm.
The original dynamo has been replaced with an alternator and the old regulator removed as part of the alternator upgrade.
Approx 4 years ago, all the front suspension bushes were replaced as were the front springs and shock absorbers. The front disc brakes were upgraded with larger discs and callipers. The rear brakes are drums which are in good order, the handbrake works as it should and does not stick.
The gear box is 4 speed manual (no overdrive) and is in excellent working condition. 1st gear is non-synchromesh but can usually be selected at very low speed without double-declutching. The car is very easy to drive and can keep up with modern town traffic. It will achieve 50mph, possibly more downhill, but is comfortable around 45mph without straining the engine and gearbox.
It has 4 fairly new tyres with less than 500m on them.
Inside, the vinyl seats and door cards are in good condition, although the door cards could do with attention to reseat them.
The headlining has a couple of tears, one about 9 inches wide and is sagging over the rear screen.
The electrics are mostly in good order, some original, some added later and upgraded. The headlamps have been replaced with modern halogen units and relays added. The indicator electrics have been converted to a pcb and a hazard switch added, they can be a little ‘erratic’ at times but will flash!
Externally is where the car needs most work. The body is deteriorating and is in need of restoration work. The photographs show the worst of the rust.
The whole car needs a respray if a good finish is desired.
I believe the car was restored around 2004, however over the years it has become apparently it was not a great restoration as can be seen by filler appearing.
I would describe the car as a running restoration project, although it may need attention to be road legal. It does not have a current MOT, it passed the last MOT in November 2018.
Included with the car are several original parts such as the dynamo, sealed-beam headlamps and the original distributor.
