Join Dr Bolu as he investigates whether or not at-home dog allergy testing kits actually work. Does your pup really have allergies? Or are these tests causing pet parents unnecessary health anxiety?

Watch what happens as we try out these popular online testing kits on our superstar pup Basil, a teddy bear, and a bottle of water. Surely teddy bears and bottles of water can’t have allergies, right? So we should expect them to get the all-clear… but the results are very questionable.

Unfortunately, our findings seem to suggest that at-home allergy testing kits aren’t providing accurate results, so we would recommend avoiding these tests.

If your dog is showing allergy symptoms, such as itching, rashes or stomach upset, we would recommend trying an exclusion food trial for 2-4 weeks. Beef, chicken, and wheat are among the most common allergens in dogs.

If the problems persist, be sure to contact your vet for next steps.

At Butternut Box, we have twelve different recipes to choose from. Whilst we do have some recipes that contain beef and chicken, we also have plenty of options that don’t. Wham Bam Lamb, Ready Steady Veggie, Pork This Way and Salmon To Love are just some of the delicious alternatives.

When you sign up to Butternut Box, we will ask you a few questions about your pup, such as their breed, age, activity level and any allergies that they may have. Taking this info into account, we will create a personalised plan for your pooch with specially-chosen recipes to avoid any allergens you may have flagged.

Butternut Box customers also have free, 24/7 access to our Vet Nurse Helpline. Our team of dedicated vet nurses can help you kick start an elimination diet if you suspect your dog may be suffering from an allergy, but are unsure what’s causing it.
