I Found the MOST unique Capitol Tour—it is in Topeka, Kansas! The Dome Tour is not for the faint at heart. The spectacular DOME TOUR is breathtaking. Watch this video to experience the one-of-a-kind tour and boldly go where few will climb. This can be a literal statement, as the tour guide leads visitors up 296 steps via yellow historic stairways. The last stairway is spiral and the others are straight, steep, narrow with irregularly spaced landings. As you enter the inside of the dome and look upwards, you will likely question if you want to continue to the very top. It is very intimidating. We were the only ones of 8 guests that did not turn around. Is it worth it? Absolutely, because the guide unlocks the door at the top to allow guests to walk around OUTSIDE THE TOP OF THE DOME.

Construction of the French Renaissance style sandstone capitol began in 1866 and was not completed until 1903. It costs 3.2 million dollars. The 300-foot-high dome makes this capitol 17 feet higher than the U.S. capitol. In this video, I not only take you to the top, but on the lower floors and in the basement to see many of the murals, memorabilia, photographs, and wonderful historical items on a self-guided historical tour. If you are traveling on I-70 in Kansas, take the exit for a rewarding experience.
