Hammer Throwing is a great athletics field event, combining strength, speed and precision technique.

Here we look at the first steps in how to develop as a hammer thrower with our throws coach Jessica Westley.

Having looked at grip, swinging the hammer and the delivery in the previous videos, this one is all about learning to do the turns.

This is a complicated and graceful movement requiring quick feet and lots of strength - when done well it is one of the most impressive actions in athletics, akin to a great hurdle action or the clearance of a massive height in high jump or pole vault.

Track and field athletics is a great sport with a huge amount of variety in it - so there is genuinely an event from everybody.
