Indrajatra also known as Yenya Punhi( a newari term for lndrajatra) is the biggest religious festival in kathmandu Valley. 'Ye' means the old name for kathmandu, 'Ya' means celebration and 'Punhi' means full moon so together it means the birthday celebrationof the old city of kathmandu.
Family members deceased in the past year are also remembered during the festival, where participants visit shrines holding lighted incense to honour deceased family members..they also place small buttered lamps on the way..Pulu kisi (resembling an elephant)Majipa Lakhey adds festive mood through the street and crowds.
