Ramadan takes place once a year and is a sacred part of the Islamic religion. During Ramadan, individuals focus on fasting, community, prayer, and reflection. As practitioners and coaches, it is important to understand the traditions underlying the celebration of Ramadan and how these practices might impact training and performance during this period. In this video, Shameema Yousuf, CMPC, MBACP, HCPC and Muhammad Deen, SEPiT, detail some of the necessary considerations to understanding how we can best support athletes during Ramadan. They also detail how support units can create modifications for athletes during this time to allow them space to engage in Ramadan traditions and continue to thrive as athletes. This video is sponsored by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
