This video is about a 615HP Ford 351 Cleveland, that was initially built by Brent Lykins Motorsports in Kentucky, back in March of 2017. It is really 354 cubic inches, consist of a Scat Superlight crankshaft with 3.500 stroke, and Molnar connecting rods with the correct Ford offset, and rod length of 6.400. The rods weigh 632g, and take 2.100 rod bearings. The pistons are forged Racetec Pistons, with Mahle 1mm/1mm/2mm ring package, The compression height is 1.140, and they weight 434g. The block is a 1970 2 bolt, that is filled to bottom of the water pump holes. The bore is 4.015, but does have a sleeve in #2 cylinder, initially thought there was some porosity, however it was not obvious, but a sleeve was installed to prevent any future mishaps. The sleeve had a 4.129 OD, engine cylinder was bored to .090, and pit was removed, and still did not damage remaining cylinder. There was a good solid foundation left for the sleeve. The block also has bronze lifter bushings, to help control oil losses, they have 0.125 orifice drilled into them. The 354, runs a standard volume Melling oil pump. The 354 cleveland maintains 69 psi of oil pressure at 8000rpm. The block uses coated main and rod bearings, The main clearances are 0.0031- 0.0033, and the rods are 0.0019- 0.0021thousandths. the ring end gaps are .020/030 for top and second. The oil rings are 2mm. The engine uses a Rollmaster timing chain, Trend 3/8 x .135 wall push rods, Morel solid roller lifters, MSD ignition, and initially ran a Frostbite electric water pump. The intake initially used, was a stock Holley Strip Dominator, with an HVH 4500/4150 adapter and 1050 Dominator carb.

The heads are stock 1970 castings, that have been fitted with bronze guides, Ferrea steel intake and exhaust valves. A simple 3 angle valve job was done, that is it. I included flow numbers, they were tested on a 4.155 bore, so will be a loss, since they are on a 4.015 bore engine. Crower roller rocker arms.

The cam is a custom grind by Comp Cams, as per Brent Lykins. 259/267 @ .050, 108 LSA, installed at a 106 intake centerline. As per Brent, lift measured .700/.660 at the valve. He also tried another cam from Chris Straub. He said that it would make about 30 hp more, than his cam. The cam was swapped, and dynoed again, with that cam it made 587 @ 7800. So it dropped by 28 hp. The specs for the other cam, are in the vid as a pic.

The engine was taken from the dyno, and bearings pulled, in October of 2017, there was no issues. It was put back together, oil pan was changed, and it has been sitting since then. My buddy Brian Gilchrist bought this 354 from Brent, and it was going into another project, but that changed course, and I bought the engine. Brian is building a bad to the bone 69 Mach I, there are a couple of pics of his car. Have to feature that Mustang, once it is done.

The engine is being pulled down, to change intakes, dyno with a Holley Strip Dominator, both 4150 and 1050 carbs, also test the John Corunkles single plane intake. This intake is the Prototype for the Ford Motosport 9424- A351/A331 single plane intakes, that were made in the early 80s. I put a link to a video I made on this intake. He raced his super stock Cleveland with this intake, that combo was in his 1972 Ford Maverick. This 354 ci Cleveland engine is going to be installed along with a top loader 4 speed into Andrea's 1969 Fastback Mustang. We are also going to change to a front sump pan. I have the interior fitted, need to vinyl paint some of the pieces. The carpet is also being cut to fit.I hope I can keep the interest of my girls, and we can finish this car by spring, get it to the track, and drive it on the street. Stay tuned to DBG.
