Hi folks, tonight I wanted to teach a fingerstyle version of Silent Night. This song was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. While Christ was most likely born in late September/early October (on the feast of Tabernacles), He was likely conceived around this time of year. Born around 3 BC, it comes as a surprise to many Christians to learn of this little known fact, but it makes sense, since Tabernacles has to do with God coming down and dwelling with His people. Thanks to E.W. Bullinger for writing such a wonderful expose on this topic, who is one of the best writers to ever live, in my humble opinion. Not to get into a Bible lesson here, but I did want to give a bit of context to this season and song. I hope you practice it and learn it, having as much fun as the law allows.
