At the heart of Bluefields, Nicaragua is its bustling port. The country's largest town on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, Bluefields is the gateway for the Corn Islands and the twice-weekly ferry. (Wednesdays and Saturdays at 09:00 a.m.)

The heart and soul of this racially-mixed community is along the water, for both locals and tourists. Watching the ferry's departure provides excellent ambience for the pace of Bluefields on a Saturday morning.

Not far away is Commercial Avenue, where appropriately, much of the city's commercial activities occur. Open-air fish stalls proudly display the catch-of-the-day from the adjacent bountiful sea. This also includes turtle, a local delicacy cheaper than farmed meats, although not for everyone's taste.

A Saturday morning also sparks action at the local diamond where baseball, as the national sport, is proudly displayed and competed.

Tag along with Matt for this brisk stroll through Bluefields and its sights, sounds and smells of the city at work and play.
