A cycle of films about physical and geographical countries. So scientists call dissimilar territories that were formed during the geological history of the Earth. There are thirteen of them in Russia. Each has its own geological structure, relief features, and hence the special natural conditions that determine its originality.
The Baikal mountainous country is located to the east of the Altai and the Sayan Mountains. Its age is from 650 to 550 million years.
The Khamar-Daban ridge stretches along the southern shore of Lake Baikal, where the territory of the Bakalsky Reserve is located.
The center of the entire Baikal physical-geographical country, of course, is Lake Baikal. Baikal is unique in the diversity of living organisms. This is due to the high oxygen content in the entire water column of the lake.
The largest tributary of Lake Baikal is the Selenga River, which brings as much water as the rest of the tributaries combined.
The Baikal-Lensky Reserve guards two unique objects at once. This is part of the coast of the lake and the upper reaches of the Lena River. Its route lies in the Arctic Ocean and is 4,300 kilometers.
