The fourth 4️⃣ day of Tour du Mont Blanc adventure! Another beautiful day, although quite twisted and complicated in terms of planning. Due to the forcasted storms, we have to change our plans and improvise a bit, adapting our TMB plan to the changing weather conditions.

The plan for this day was pretty simple:
Due to possible storms, we do not return to the main trail and go straight to Courmayeur. We wake up late as we are close to the city, and we want to be there around 12 am to find an open pizzeria :) We do some shopping, drink coffee, eat pizza and go up the Mont de la Saxe variant, where in the nearby area at an altitude of about 2500m we are planning another wild camping.

This was our plans... But ... the the weather forecasts showed numerous storms, so camping at an altitude of 2500m was out of the question. We even considered spending the whole day in Courmayeur and waiting out the storms in the city. We decided to go to the city and then decide what to do next.

We reach the Courmayeur city without problems in beautiful weather. However, when entering the city, we have to hide from short, intense rain. We use a moment of break to call the refuge Walter Bonatti shelter and... they have free places! Great! We have a safe overnight stay within a reasonable distance to get there before evening storms. And on the way there is another refuge Rifugio Bertone , where in the event of a storm we will be able to wait out safely.

We do some shopping, drink delicious coffee and eat awesome pizza at Ristorante Pizzeria Du Tunnel (open from 12am!). The pizza is really big and Aga packs some for take away - it will be a great dinner later :)

We leave the city and head towards the Rifugio Bertone. We have a big ascent ahead, but also a lot of energy after pizza and the trail leads through a beautiful forest and there are great views so it's going really well. We take a short coffee/cola break at the Bertone refuge. Storms are raging in the area, but still quite a distance from us, so we should reach the Rifugio Bonatti without problems.

Between the huts we follow a quite flat trail traversing the slopes along the Val Ferret valley. The views are just stunning and the weather is still great, although there are clouds and storms raging over the Mont Blanc massif. We walk at a slow pace, taking breaks to fully enjoy this beautiful trail full of flowers and great views.

We reach the Rifugio Walter Bonatti around 7 pm. We eat dinner (pizza!) and for dessert we have pudding and cold refreshing beer. Over the tops of the Mont Blanc massif dark clouds gather quickly and after a while a very intense storm begins.

We go to sleep in super comfortable conditions and don't want to think about what would happen if this storm caught us wild camping at 2500m :)
