Day 5 of the Tour du Mont Blanc - what a fantastic day! The weather is amazing, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. To be honest, almost every day on this trail feels like "one of the most beautiful." Today, we're leaving Italy and entering Switzerland.

We kick off the day with breakfast at the Walter Bonatti refuge around 5 am. This refuge was a real lifesaver because we had some crazy storms in the evening and at night. Our destination today is the town of La Fouly in Switzerland. The weather forecast is looking great, and the hike is relatively short, so we're in for a beautiful and peaceful day.

We start on a gentle path, continuing from where we left off the previous day, traversing the slopes along the Val Ferret valley. We're taking it slow, soaking in the incredible scenery. We also take a forced, nearly hour-long break to search for my lost drone, which I lost somewhere in the berry bushes on a huge mountainside. After this, we finish the traverse and descend to Chalet Val Ferret, where we take a short coffee break.

Next, we begin a 300-meter ascent to the Elena refuge, following a beautiful and relatively easy trail. We pause for a moment at the refuge and then continue our ascent toward the Grand Col Ferret pass, which lies on the border between Italy and Switzerland. From the Elena refuge to the pass, we ascend another 475 meters, and the trail is quite gradual, offering breathtaking views.

Just before the pass, we find a beautiful, sheltered spot out of the wind and have a small snack. The Grand Col Ferret pass (2537m) is the highest point of the day and provides some fantastic views, especially on the Italian side. From the pass, we descend to the Swiss side and soon arrive at a small stream. By the stream, on a hillside covered in yellow flowers, we take a lunch break.

After our break, we begin a fairly long but beautiful descent towards the town of La Fouly. In La Fouly, we do some shopping at a small market and head to the incredibly located Camping Des Glaciers. It's time for food, a bath, laundry, and planning for the next day, which turns out to be more complicated than we initially thought! 😄
