This easy caramel recipe creates a smooth and creamy dip that’s perfect for apples, and it’s great for making caramel corn too! Whether you’re hosting a fall gathering, preparing Halloween treats, or just looking for a fun weekend project, these caramel apples will be a hit. Ingredients:

• 1 lb dark brown sugar (about 2 cups packed)
• 2 sticks unsalted butter
• 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
• 1 cup corn syrup
• 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 1 teaspoon molasses (I use about 1/3 cup)
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 12 apples
• Popsicle sticks or chopsticks
• Assorted toppings (toffee bits, chopped nuts, coconut, crushed cookies, etc.)
• Optional: Melted chocolate in zip-top bags for drizzling

Instructions:

1. Prep the Apples: Wash, dry, and insert sticks into the cores of the apples. Place them on a baking sheet and chill in the fridge. Prepare your toppings in bowls.
2. Make the Caramel: In a heavy 2 1/2-quart saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, condensed milk, corn syrup, vanilla extract, molasses, and salt. Stir over medium-low heat for about 15 minutes until the sugar dissolves.
3. Cook the Caramel: Attach a candy thermometer to the pan. Increase heat to medium-high and cook until the mixture reaches 236°F, stirring constantly but slowly for about 12 minutes.
4. Dip Apples: Once the caramel reaches 200°F, dip the chilled apples into the caramel.
5. Optional: Roll in toppings or drizzle with melted chocolate.

This caramel can also be stored for dipping sliced apples later or for making caramel corn!
