On today’s episode of the Daily Pitchfork, Trevenchy covers the dominance of our defense . This Brian Ward led defense is now #1 in the nation in defensive touchdowns. A stat that can easily go over the head for the community . Simply because there is so much context behind the mindset that this defense has. It all started in the preseason in which this team was focused on recovering footballs and taking the ball away from the offense. This mindset has translated to every single player so it has become a habit for these guys to find opportunities to generate takeaways . It has been remarkable to watch how aggressive this team has been , but seeing the identity manifest itself has been an even better watch. I feel so reassured going into Big 12 football because we are built for it. The aggressive nature of pressuring the quarterback keeping him anxious in the pocket or regretful to scramble is visible . In each post game presser , guys like CJ Fite and Keyshaun Elliot have spoken on the fact that this is just their personality. The identity to generate splash defensive plays and to remain disciplined in mitigating splash players , I gravitate towards the energy of these guys a lot

This defense is full of dawgs . I cover how important the addition of Myles Rowser has been for our team and I can’t wait to see more 3 safety sets with Sharmari, X , and Myles. The game plan for tomorrow will be about sending alternative pressures to keep QB Jordan McCloud uncomfortable . I believe in Brian Ward to implement great stunts and pressures so that we can find unique ways to make the quarterback uncomfortable. The TFL’s ( tackles for loss ) will have to be there tomorrow so we can put Texas State in situations to struggle if they can’t get in a rhythm with their running game. Being a winning football team starts here , on our first away game against a hungry Sun Belt team looking to defend their home turf. I am so excited to see how our Sun Devils go up to the challenge and respond with an enforced identity.
