On May 21, 2024, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, bestowed the First Class Order of Zayed II on Prof. Saleemul Huq’s family—his wife Kashana Huq, his son Saqib Huq and daughter Sadaf Huq. The late Prof. Saleemul Huq, an advisor to the COP28 Presidency and a key member of the COP28 Advisory Committee, passed away in October before COP28.

Although he did not live to see his work come to fruition, he will always be remembered as a beacon of hope to the world in his championed efforts for Loss and Damage Fund. The operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund stands as a lasting legacy of his dedication and efforts, which we will continue to carry forward.
