The third of the three A4s I own, No. 4493 looks very elegant in lined LNER green. Hornby's lining application is on point, from the intricate lining around the cab, to the red lining on the valances and under frames, to the white lining around the wheels. These little touches really set the model off, and it's clear comparing this version to earlier A4s from Hornby that this is a much more refined and mature rendering.

I have done very little to this model, aside from fitting the detail packs, picking out a few small things with paints, and installing a DCC decoder. The lamps are a Modelu product, my favorite loco lamps, and so finely made that they can be added and removed from lamp irons to reconfigure headcodes.

Also shown are my new-tooled Hornby LNER teak coaches, which are simply stunners. The only drawback is that the coaches are heavy and the locomotive is not particularly heavy on its feet, so on a layout like this with gradients, 6 coaches is about the maximum loading. Even with 6 coaches there is still some occasional slippage. If the layout were flat, I'd guess the locomotive could handle 8 of these coaches at maximum.
