On Wednesday 25 September 2024 a bill was introduced by MLC Ben Hood into the South Australian parliament that bans feticide after 28 weeks but instead facilitates premature live delivery of the child in situations where the mother’s health is at risk from continuing the pregnancy. In this interview, Prue, a young mum of two, small business owner and hairdresser shares her story of being offered an abortion at 35 weeks because of a diagnosis that her child had dwarfism. Prue was deeply affected by the offer of abortion at 35 weeks by a social worker and it has since given her nightmares and led to ongoing PTSD. She is now determined to fight for the rights of children with dwarfism in-utero and for their mums to be given proper support during pregnancy.
