Today we are dealing with the double tongue!
How does this work? Which syllables do I use so that it also sounds on the instrument. What exercises can I do to make it work on the instrument? How about the air?
In this video I show you what you have to do and how you can get your tongue to run.
The single, double and triple tongue push is used in wind instruments to produce the tone as the beginning of the tone or for articulation.
The correct term would be tongue push-back, since the tongue is pulled back more or less quickly, allowing the airflow through the lip opening, which is necessary for sound production. The airflow is started or stopped with the tongue or the soft palate. The sequence of movements is described with the syllables "ta-ka", "te-ke" or "ti-ki" with a sharper beginning of the tone and with "da-ga", "de-ge" or "di-gi" with a softer beginning of the tone or portato passages.
For fast passages, the double tongue thrust (double tongue) or the so-called triple tongue thrust (triple tongue) is often used. These two playing techniques alternate the closure of air at the tip of the tongue with the interruption of air flow at the hard palate, as occurs with the syllables "ke" or "ge". The double tongue is therefore described with "teke" or "taka", the triple tongue with "teteke" or "tataka".
You can see the answers to the questions in the video. See you soon and CIAO!!!
PS In the future there will be more videos and exercises on the tongue and impulse so that we as trumpeters can have a good start on this topic.
