Christopher Columbus sometimes gets credited with proposing an innovative new theory concerning the size and shape of the Earth. However, by landing in the Caribbean, Columbus' hypothesis on the distance west from Europe to Asia was proven to be terribly wrong. Should he really be remembered as a great "man of science?"
