Wrestling has a long history of being "exposed", but the first big embarrassment for the sport came in 1911. A rivalry between the great American catch-as-catch-can wrestler, Frank Gotch, and the European strongman George Hackenschmidt led to two of the most important wrestling matches of the pre-WWI era. The only problem was that the second match was obviously rigged and everyone in the stands could tell. Could wrestling ever recover from being outed as fake?
