Snakeheads are awesome. Ever since arriving in Maryland in 2002, Northern snakeheads have taken up residence across the mid-atlantic region and provided an opportunity for a very unique and fun style of fishing. I have known about snakeheads for a while, but I didn't try to catch one until the summer of 2020. Man, I wish I had tried it sooner. Snakehead fishing has changed the way I fish forever.

I have so much fun chasing after these intelligent and cunning creatures. The chase, the fight, and the freakout in my kayak keep me coming back to target them time and time again. Over the couple of years that I have been targeting these fish, I have picked up on quite a few points of knowledge that I wanted to share with y'all in this video. I want you guys to be able to experience the same thrill that I get when I catch one of these snakeheads.

In the video, I detailed 6 different tips that will help you catch your first ever snakehead. I hope you find these snakehead fishing tips helpful! If you catch your first ever snakehead using some of these tips, please let us know! You can dm us on instagram @ o22fishing, or drop a comment on one of our videos.

IMPORTANT NOTE: While Snakeheads are a non native species, biologists have discovered over the last few years that the damage they cause to the ecosystem is not nearly what was once expected. Many bodies of water containing these fish have successfully adapted to their presence. I encourage you to thoroughly research the data that is out their regarding snakeheads before you make an uninformed comment saying that we should have killed the fish. That being said, everyone is entitled to their opinion regarding these fish. We simply ask that your opinion be formed on actual data and research, not what you heard from a friend or read on facebook.

The body of water that we fished already has a healthy population of snakeheads. Killing a few fish would do absolutely nothing in regards to eradicating the species from that body of water. Instead, you'd be wasting the life of a perfectly good gamefish. Here at Orange 22 Fishing, we encourage you to practice catch and release on all species of fish, including snakeheads. We will continue to do so, and we hope you will do the same as well.

No matter your opinion on this topic, we do thank you for watching our video and supporting our channel!

Tight lines,
Dave and Matt
