7th January 1967: Having beaten Chelsea twice and drawn with Everton, in the Merseyside derby, over the Christmas and New Year period Liverpool find themselves lying second in the table behind Manchester United. Following this good run of form, and with West Ham United regular Anfield whipping boys, "Match of the Day" are fortunate enough to capture the first glimpse of the high tempo style of football that Liverpool would use to such an effect in the next two decades. While left winger Peter Thompson gives the type of scintillating individual performance which could have the Kop pulling their collective hair out in frustration on many other occasions.
