22nd April 1967: With the first North American Soccer League set for the Summer 1967 one of the prime movers, former West Ham star Phil Woosnam drummed up some interest in the States with a friendly at the Houston Astrodome, played prior to the weekend fixtures, between the Hammers and Real Madrid who won the game 3-2. Despite such a long return journey for the following weekend game, possibly effecting next season's European places, fourth placed Leeds United visited Upton Park with mild interest rather than public outrage. For Leeds, despite the loss of midfield general Johnny Giles for this game and the following week's FA Cup Semi Final encounter against Chelsea, Billy Bremner gives a perfect demonstration of how to control the centre of the field following on from his majestic display against England at Wembley.
