Whether a shoe fits or not often depends on a piece of wood. Shaped correctly, it becomes a last with which a shoemaker can make a shoe that does not pinch. Helge Baumeister from Pirmasens produces these lasts. He is a trained pattern maker. He has been designing lasts for men's, women's and children's shoes in his workshop for more than 20 years on behalf of many well-known shoe companies.

He shows how the correct shoe length and width are determined when making lasts and how a finely crafted last is created from a block of hornbeam with a lot of manual work. Flat sneakers or high-heeled pumps - such a wooden workpiece is needed for all shoe models, in “Craftsmanship” Helge Baumeister shows how to make a last for children's shoes.
