Kim Schimpfle is a fashion designer in Freiburg. She specializes in exclusive traditional costumes: Poppy and eye-catching and always with a reference to her homeland, the Black Forest. Every dirndl in her store is unique, and she makes each one personally by hand. She even designs her own fabrics. It often takes several months from the initial idea for a dirndl to the finished dress.

Every step involves detailed considerations and in-depth knowledge of tailoring. What is the grain and what happens if you don't follow it? How should a bodice be designed so that it lifts the bust beautifully? How do you turn a smooth strip of fabric into a ruffle or a pleated border? Kim knows all the tricks of the trade because, as a self-taught seamstress, she had to learn everything step by step herself.
