今回は130年ぶりリニューアルされた道後温泉を巡って来ました。
This time, we visited Dogo Onsen, which was renovated for the first time in 130 years.

こちら道後温泉は、3000年ともいわれる歴史を持ってまして、兵庫の有馬温泉、和歌山の白浜温泉と並ぶ日本三古湯（にほんさんことう）の一つです。
そして太古より、「日本書紀」、「源氏物語」など様々な文献にも登場し、大国主命（おおくにぬしのみこと）が少彦名命（すくなひこなのみこと）の病を治した話や聖徳太子の来浴(らいよく)など、「日本最古」にふさわしい言い伝えも多く残っています。
Dogo Onsen has a history said to date back 3,000 years, and is one of Japan's Three Ancient Hot Springs, alongside Arima Onsen in Hyogo and Shirahama Onsen in Wakayama.
It has also appeared in various documents since ancient times, such as the "Nihon Shoki" and the "Tale of Genji," and there are many legends worthy of its claim to be "Japan's oldest," such as the story of Okuninushi no Mikoto curing the illness of Sukunahikona no Mikoto and Prince Shotoku's visit to the hot springs.

玉の石
昔、出雲の神様である、大国主命と少彦名命が伊予の国を訪れたとき、病気になった少彦名命を道後の湯に浸しました。
すると、少彦名命はたちまち元気になり「ましましいねたるかも（しばらく寝ていたようだ）」と叫んで、玉の石の上うえで舞ったといわれています。
Tama no Ishi
Long ago, when Okuninushi-no-Mikoto and Sukunahikona-no-Mikoto, the gods of Izumo, visited the province of Iyo, they bathed Sukunahikona-no-Mikoto, who had fallen ill, in the hot springs of Dogo.
It is said that Sukunahikona-no-Mikoto immediately recovered and cried out "mashishinetarukakamo (it seems he has been sleeping for a while)," and danced on top of the Tama no Ishi.

又新殿
又新殿・霊の湯棟は皇室専用の御湯殿として明治32年（1899）に建設されました。又新殿の名前の由来は四書五経と言われる儒教の経典の1つ「大学」の伝二章の一節「湯之盤銘曰とうばんのめいにいわく　苟日新まことにひにあらたに　日日新ひびにあらたに　又日新またひにあらたなり」から引用したと伝えられています。意味は「新しい一日を迎える度に、新しく自分自身を向上させる、毎日毎日、それを繰り返す、そうして、日が新しくなる度に、自分自身も新しくなると湯王とうおうの盤たらいに銘記されている」この故事は殷いん王朝の初代の王、湯王とうおうが自分の洗面器にこの文字を彫って、毎朝顔を洗う度に自分に言い聞かせる戒めの言葉にしていたという話です。
Mashinden Mashinden and the Rei-no-yu Building were built in 1899 as baths exclusively for the Imperial family. It is said that the name Mashinden comes from a passage in the second chapter of the Great Learning, one of the Confucian scriptures known as the Four Books and Five Classics: "The inscription on the bath basin says, 'Every day a new one improves oneself, and this is repeated every day. And every time a new day comes, oneself is also renewed.' This story is about how King Tang, the first king of the Yin dynasty, carved these characters into his washbasin and used them as a warning to himself every morning when he washed his face.

そして最後に道後の名前の由来ですが、古くは「伊予の温泉ゆ」・「熟田津にきたつの温泉ゆ」と呼ばれ、大化の改新により国府がおかれた後に「道後」の名称が生まれました。
Finally, the origin of the name Dogo is that it was originally called "Iyo no Onsen Yu" or "Mutatsu no Kitatsu no Onsen Yu", and the name "Dogo" was created after the Taika Reforms and the provincial capital was established there.
