Today I’m taking you on a quick rope access crane inspection run in high wind. It was blowing HARD ;-). We had to inspects the welds on a crane pedestal after the crane had been load tested. That meant that the NDT rope access technician was climbing underneath the platform performing a lot of rope to rope transfers while I was constantly rigging and de-rigging the ropes. The rigging was straightforward. Just basic rigging according to the IRATA ICOP. Two Figure of Eight knots combined in both steel carabiners. To access the bracket I was rigging on I had to lift the grating a bit using a Petzl Grillon. That way I could just squeeze my arm through to get the steel strop on the other side. We found no abnormalities, so everybody was happy.
Watch all the way to the end to see some serious stormy rain on the highway!!
