The day I told my dad, Mike Capron, I started engraving, he said I better start thinking about art and design. My career as a bit and spur maker has focused on the art aspect of my craft and I owe it to him for refusing to allow me not to embrace art and design.

New interests and study’s in portrait engraving have led me to want to incorporate drawings of my dad’s into my bits and spurs. This horse head comes from a painting of his I have in my shop that has always been one of my favorites. I used inlaid 14k red gold and fine silver for my interpretation of the painting. Thanks Pop for all you have done.

I grew up close to the Mexican border so the culture has always been very close to me. The chihuahua spur has always been a favorite. I twisted the design somewhat by dropping the rowel pin to make it more of a drop shank where most are straight. A fun twist to an old tradition.
