Crossing the termite hill

On the far banks of the Luit³ is Majuli⁴
At Majuli are sand banks.

The reeds of Kuwabari⁶, the birds are beautiful,

When Phaat Bihu⁷ arrives, I cannot wait,
Through the jungle I cut out a path!

*Note. Alternating with Luit is Dihing noi. The Dihing is another tributary of the Brahmaputra.

7. An age old custom/festival, which earlier used to be held for seven days during Bohag (or Baisakh) where many tribes would converge for buying and selling, music, dancing, food and drink. Nowadays it is celebrated for three days only.
