What Is The Highest Waterfall In Ireland?

At 121 m with water cascading downward, the highest Waterfall in Ireland is at Powerscourt Estate , set in beautiful parkland at the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains.

If you have a keen eye for wildlife you might see the Sika Deer or the native Irish red squirrel. It is a haven for wildlife and children can have fun trying to spot some of the locals – the Chaffinch, Cuckoo, Raven and the Willow Warbler. The waterfall is a haven for families, a popular picnic spot and there is a playground to keep the kids busy.

It is recommended that you drive to Powerscourt Waterfall which is 6km from the Main Estate and is set in one of Ireland’s most beautiful parklands and there is plenty of parking available there. Going down the stunning driveway from the gatelodge towards the Waterfall you will see it surrounded by Beech, Oak, Larch and Pine trees some of which were planted over 200 years ago. You will also see the Giant Redwoods, which are native to Northern California where they may grow up to 80m high and live for 4,000 years so the ones here still have some catching up to do..

Powerscourt Waterfall is an ideal summer location for picnics and you may also have a barbecue. So allow some time for that picnic or barbeque and take a leisurely walk around the amazing countryside.

For those that might be looking for refreshment to buy, there is a kiosk on site that serves everything from coffee and tea to hot-dogs and ice-cream. The kiosk is open everyday from the 1st June to the end of August and year round at weekends, if weather permits.

The Waterfall also has a car park and toilet facilities. Dogs are very welcome but they must be on a leash.
