The South East Asia Music Session is an annual project hosted by The Princess Galyana Vadhani Institute of Music which gives the opportunity for traditional musicians in the South-East Asian region to showcase the music that is unique to their culture to the world.

Brunei had to honour to participate for the very first time this year represented by Rhythm of Darussalam.

As part of the project we presented five songs that clearly reflects the ethnic culture and traditions in our local music.

DSSM stands for “dua sungai satu muara” or “When the two rivers meet at a body of water (at a point)” in English.

Composed by Pak Dadang Supriatna, the music symbolises two different rhythmic & musical backgrounds; those that existed before the arrival of Islamic influence to Brunei Darussalam with those influenced by Islamic culture. These rhythms are then arranged into a harmonious musical composition.

This has a symbolic philosophy that although the population of Brunei Darussalam consists of several different ethnicities but they can live in harmony under one roof of the kingdom of Brunei Darussalam.
