The plaintiff brought her diamond ring into the defendant’s jewelry store to have the diamond reset. Unfortunately, the defendant lost the ring and offered to give her another ring of similar value. The plaintiff got the replacement ring appraised, and they told her it was a piece of junk, so the plaintiff is suing for the value of her original ring, as well as pain and suffering. The defendant insists the original ring was stolen, and he offered the plaintiff a Tiffany-cut diamond ring of equal value, which she was perfectly happy with until now.
