On April 8, 2016, McNally Smith was honored to host the Minnesota Music Summit keynote address (also the week's Artist & Industry seminar), featuring prolific artist, educator and advocate David Lowery. Best known as the frontman for seminal college rock bands Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker, Lowery touched on his storied alt-rock past, and drilled down on the challenges recording artists face in the digital age. (Lowery is an ardent advocate for musicians and songwriters, recently filing a $150 million class action lawsuit against Spotify).
