Oze is one of the most vast high-altitude marshlands in Japan, straddling Gunma, Fukushima, and Niigata Prefectures, and offers a spectacular combination of marshland and mountains that perfectly fits the phrase "Faraway Oze. Oze is divided into two main areas, Ozenuma and Ozegahara, both of which belong to the Oze National Park and are designated as "Special Natural Monuments" by the government.

Ozenuma is a lake with a circumference of about 7 km and an elevation of 1,650 m. Hiuchigatake, one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains, can be seen from the lakeside to the north.
The Oe Marshland is a high-rise marshland on the shore of Ozenuma Lake, and the Oe River running through the center of the marshland is a place of relaxation for hikers, where they can often encounter water birds and fish. The "three larches" that stand out even from a distance are the symbol of the Oe Marsh, which is also famous for the Nikkoh sedge colony in early summer and the beauty of the autumn foliage. Mt. Hiuchigatake can also be seen from Oe Marsh.

There is a walking trail around Ozenuma, and you can walk around the whole area. There are also marshlands scattered along the shores of Ozen-numa such as Asa-ko marshland and Numajiri-daira, and rest stops are available.
If you go over the Shirasuna Pass from Numajiri-daira in Ozenuma, you will reach "Ozegahara".

Ozegahara is a vast high-rise marshland located at an altitude of 1,400 meters and was created by the eruption activity of Mt. Hiuchigatake. Ozegahara is dotted with many pond tangs, and its beautiful waterside scenery soothes visitors, and the reflection of Mt. Hiuchigatake and other majestic mountains on the water is particularly mysterious.

Ozegahara is surrounded by mountainous terrain, and the views of Mt. Hiuchigatake, Mount Keizuru, and Mount Shibutsu from the marshland are particularly spectacular!
Mt. Shibutsu is also selected as one of the "100 most famous mountains in Japan" and is a symbol of Oze along with Mt. Hiuchigatake. Mt. Keizuru, with its unique mountain shape, is also a representative mountain of Oze.

Ozegahara and Ozenuma are part of Oze National Park, which is designated as a "Special Natural Monument" by the government and is also one of the 100 most unexplored areas in Japan.

The best time to see the autumn leaves in Oze is usually from late September to late October. This is a spot where you can enjoy the autumn foliage for a relatively long period of time, from the grass foliage of the marshland to the foliage of the trees.
