The Llangollen Canal Caused a Disaster on the Railway - Towpath Walk

The Llangollen Canal is one of the most picturesqe Canals and Walks in the UK.

In this walk i go 6 miles from Llangollen to the world fanous Pontycysyllte Aquaduct.

But the beauty of this canal also holds a tragedy. 3 miles from Llangollen was the location.

Fully opened in 1805 it operated along some dramatic landscapes. The Llangollen Canal later had a rival in the railway, The Ruabon to Barmouth Railway.

In 1945 disater struck, heavy rain created a breach in the canal and flooded onto the adjacent railway causing a huge derailment and tragedy
