The Amargosa River is one of the most extraordinary rivers in the United States. It begins a little north of Beatty, Nevada and flows south through the Amargosa Valley, Shoshone, Tecopa, China Ranch and near Dumont Dunes makes a big turn and flows north through Saratoga Springs and ends at Badwater -- the deepest, driest, hottest place in the Western Hemisphere. Unusual because it flows underground most of the way but surfaces in springs and streams. The Amargosa Conservancy is dedicated to protecting its flow and interpreting its history.
