Deltic D9000 ‘Royal Scots Grey’ at Kings Cross at 1315 on 21st April 2023 with an ‘Intercity’ charter to Edinburgh.

The Deltic has just come back from Barrow Hill after work being undertaken and had ran down from Crewe in the morning to north London where 90001 brought the train to Kings Cross.

D9000/ 55022 is then taking the train to Edinburgh. The 90 will then take the train ECS to Newcastle with the Deltic then taking the working west to Carlisle. From Carlisle the 90 will head the ensemble back to base at Crewe. That is at least the plan, there are currently delays north of York from the morning and the train itself is running circa 60 minute down south of Doncaster.
The operators kindly allowed customers of other operators who were stuck at Kings Cross due to issues further north, to board this ‘unique’ working.

The rolling stock is also of note - a recreated Scotrail push pull set superbly restored cosmetically, the first time I believe, it’s ran to London. On the rear also was the owners private coach and retro Intercity liveried class 90 No 90001 ‘Royal Scot’ itself a rarity now on a passenger train.

An excellent sight and sound.
Well done to all involved.
