This is a story about how Iowans came together in a crisis.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa everyone. Named because it’s on a river. I think every big city in Iowa is along some river. Across the river is the famous Quaker Oats factory. You know, where they make cereal?

This is the Cereal capital of the world, everyone. And this right here is the largest cereal plant on earth. It’s just about the tallest building in all of Cedar Rapids. From blocks away, you can smell all the cereal being made inside.

They’ve been making cereal here since the late 1800s, and this factory has been a big part of the economy here.

There are factories all over Cedar Rapids. Factory jobs have always been what Cedar Rapids has been about. They’re trying to bring in different types of companies to diversify things, but for a lot of the people here, factory jobs are all there is. It’s a statewide issue.

Why are we in Cedar Rapids anyways? Because it’s one of the best places to live in the country. At least, according to a bunch of random websites with various rankings.
