With the U.S. coming out of the Great Depression and war looming on the horizon, the nation stopped for just a few minutes as 40,000 spectators crammed into Pimlico Race Course and another 40 MILLION listened on the radio, including Franklin D. Roosevelt who stopped a Cabinet Meeting to follow these two champions in what was billed as the "Race of the Century."
