Welcome to NYFTE!
The National Youth Folklore Troupe of England (NYFTE - pronounced "Nifty"), is a talented group of young people aged 10 – 18 with a passion for traditional music, song and dance. The group, whose members represent all the regions within England, come together in the spring to put together their repertoire for that year, and then travel to locations across England performing at events in a variety of ways, including ceilidhs, displays and concerts. The repertoire represents many English traditions, some popular and some less well known.
2023 is promising to be an exciting and busy year. Over the 2022 / 2023 winter we held a number of rapper and clog workshops. The rapper workshops culminated with three NYFTE rapper teams travelling to Rochdale to compete in DERT / DERTy 2023. On Easter Saturday (April 8th) we host our Spring concert in Shirehampton (Bristol): this will be the first opportunity to see the 2023 NYFTE repertoire, including new dance styles (such as stave dancing) and debut performances of music written / arranged by team members. After this, we are looking forward to performing at Upton-upon-Severn, Chippenham, St Alban’s and Bromyard Folk Festivals. We have been invited to Buxton Day of Dance and will be running our own ceilidh (the 'NYFTE and Friends' ceilidh) in Bakewell Town Hall.
