The kingdom of Men is a prominent location in The Lord of the Rings, not only being one of last strongholds of Men but also being the kingdom Aragorn was born to lead. There are several motifs that go into the Gondor theme, which include the Gondor in Decline and Gondor in Ascension motifs. Both are the main motif of the kingdom, primarily played on brass and with a sense of regale and weight to its usage. However, the In Decline phrase ends with a downward note, as opposed to the In Ascension phrase which ends in a more upwards positive way. Other motifs related to the Gondor theme that I included are the Minas Tirith motif, which focuses around four notes and portrays the emotional core and weight the castle has to Gondor. It is musically related to the final Gondor motif that plays once Sauron is defeated; Gondor Reborn. Much like the Decline and Ascension variations, Gondor Reborn builds upon the Minas Tirith motif to create a triumphant, victorious theme for Gondor. As a whole, the theme of Gondor is versatile enough to portray the pits and peaks of the kingdom, the aggressive and the emotional, and all around perfectly fit the journey of Gondor's ascension.
