Back in 2013 as Big Slick was ramping up the musical aspect of the annual Big Slick Celebrity Weekend, friends and family reached out to local Kansas City band, Perpetual Change, to see if they would be interested in helping out at the event. The rest is history.

Formed nearly 40 years ago by friends and high school classmates at Shawnee Mission North and Shawnee Mission Northwest, the band ebbed and flowed for many years as members pursued careers and and other musical avenues that would include stints opening for KISS, Cheap Trick and Prince, among others (they once also opened for Debbie Gibson...but don't tell them we told you that...).

What started as some pre-party music and "bumper" tunes to help kick off auction items at the Big Slick Party & Show evolved into epic end-of-night jams where it's common to see Eric Stonestreet or Triumph the Insult Comic Dog sitting in on drums, Paul Rudd, Chris Daughtry, David Cook, Samm Levine, Kevin Rahm, Taran Killam or James Van Der Beek taking over on lead vocals, or even Al Roker and Angela Kinsey jumping in on tambourine...you just never know what you're going to see.

2024 marks the 10th year of Perpetual Change performing in person as our Big Slick House Band (they also performed virtually for the "Big Slick Virtually Talented Show" in 2021 during the pandemic) and they've done it all while generously donating their time and talents each year in support of Big Slick and Children's Mercy.

About the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend

The Big Slick Celebrity Weekend is an annual fundraising event hosted by some of Kansas City's most famous funny characters and their friends. Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, Rob Riggle, David Koechner, Eric Stonestreet and Heidi Gardner come together each year to raise money for Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Since its inception in 2010 Big Slick has raised more than $21 million dollars for pediatric cancer research. The 2024 Big Slick Celebrity Weekend will take place May 31st-June 1st.
